We attended Justin's commencement( kind of like graduation) from Disovery Place yesterday. We were very encouraged. All of the guests and staff sat around in a big circle and took turns talking about Justin and giving him words of encouragement. We were so delighted to hear they thought Justin was funny, how he had been welcoming to all of the new guests, how he had helped others and just how much they had enjoyed getting to know him. They all told him he had grown so much in the past 30 days. It was just great to hear that Justin had actually had some fun times for it has been a long while since we have seen him enjoying life or even laughing for that matter.
After much talk over the past week the family has all decided that Justin go to a halfway house for the month of May. Halfway house (to me) seemed to have such a negative connotation but it is really very different than I had thought. It is a group of about 6-8 guys who have all graduated from Discovery Place living and working in the same areas. He already knows several of the guys he is living with. They all seem to be around Justin's age. It is a good transition out of rehab because they still have some structure and a lot of positive peer pressure. They go back to Discovery Place and even do some mentoring. Justin was even able to find some work already!
He has been overwhelmed by all of the prayers, cards and letters. He looks great and he feels healthy. We are grateful for all of the positive support and ask for continued prayer. This is just the beginning of a long journey for Justin. He feels very apprehensive about transitioning back to normal life but we feel very optimistic about his continued recovery.
Thanks!
Kyle, Pamela and Drew
